We can confirm that arrangements are in place to introduce a temporary 3.5 metre width restriction and weight restriction of 7.5 tonne at Ealing Bridge located on the B183 Sheering Road, Harlow, in the coming weeks.
These measures are necessary to prevent loading on the previously extended elements of the bridge which are weak, and to limit the loading on the original brick arch.
Works will be carried out overnight from Monday 5 February 2024 (between the hours of 9pm and 5am with the support of a road closure for approximately three nights) to introduce the physical restrictions.
Advance signage will be installed from 31 January (with the support of a lane reductions using a ‘Give and Take’ arrangement) at strategic locations in the surrounding area, to provide drivers with sufficient notice of the new limits in place at the bridge.
We appreciate that these measures may be unwelcomed, however they are designed to keep the public safe and minimise further deterioration of the structure, until longer term improvements are determined. We are currently exploring options that may exist to limit the impact of the weight restriction.
Letters have been sent to residents and businesses in the immediate vicinity to make them aware of our intentions (example attached), and information is available on One.Network, and will be shared on social media in due course.
